Severn Bridge Race Report
Last weekend saw one of the highlights of the PYSC sailing calendar, the annual Severn Bridge race, being held. With a westerly breeze, the run all the way to the bridge was exhilarating; however, the conditions got more challenging on the beat home once the tide had turned and the wind started to freshen. Of the 12 boats that started, only 8 completed the course and the rescue boats were kept busy all afternoon. Matters were complicated by Mariner 1 suffering a puncture towards the end of the afternoon and having to get off the water somewhat quickly.
The race was won by Nick Noble in his Contender who finished a mere 13 seconds on handicap ahead of the Fireball sailed by visitors from Thornbury SC, Barry Smith and Jo Line.
Well done to all for your efforts on Severn bridge race, turned into a long day.
